Marriage registration in Thailand
» starts with affirmations from your embassy in Thailand confirming not only your citizenship but that you are single, This will allow you to get married in Thailand.
» Marriage registration in Thailand can become a drawn out affair, If you were previously married, you will need to produce your original divorce decree or the death certificate of your late spouse, These documents have to be translated into Thai and taken to the Thai Department of Foreign Affairs to be verified.
» Once the documents have been verified by Thai Foreign Affairs, the final step of your marriage registration takes place.
» The verified documents have to be taken to the local district office called the “Amphur” or “Khet” to register your marriage.
» Marriage registration ends with the issuing of a Thai marriage certificate.
You will need the following documents.
1 Affidavit or Affirmation of Freedom to Marry (Translated copy of affidavits to Thai certified by an approved Foreign Ministry Translator)
2 Copy of your passport with arrival card
3 Original Divorce or Death Certificate of their previous spouse
Your Thai fiancee would need the following documents.
I. National ID Card or a Valid ID card
II. House Registration Certificate
III. Original Divorce or Death Certificate of their former spouse
IV. Name Change Certificates
Eligibility Requirements
» Either of them should not be less than 17 years of age
» Both of them should not be in blood relations in the direct ascendant or descendant line
» Both of them should not have the same adoptive parents
» Either of them should not have a spouse at the time of marriage
Special Note
» Person filing has previously registered marriage
» If divorced, proof of divorce must be shown; in the event of spousal death (the applicant is a widow or widower) proof must accompany application
» Accompaniment by witnesses
How to marriage registration useful?
A Marriage registration will until both of you and provides the following right
1. The parties live together as spouses.
2. The parties support and raise each other.
3. Each party can use other’s surname.
4. For an alien women, She can apply for Thai nationality same with husband
5. The Parties have right to manage the marital property in conjunctions.
6. A party will be entitled to the other’s inheritance if the other passes away.
7. A Party will be entitled to the other’s wage from government agency/employer if the other dies in duty.
8. A party will be entitled to the charge for compensation from the party alleged causing death to his/her spouse.
9. A party will be entitled to the charge to claim for compensation from a third party alleged to take to spouse away from him/her
10. A child born to them will be a legitimate child to them
